“Oboe IRONMAN” Workshop

Ironman as a series of sports competitions for endurance and will is now available not only to athletes! The “Oboe IRONMAN” will start in Gnessin Summer School-2021 for everyone who wants to improve their performing skills together with the famous masters of oboe art.

Workshop participants (7+) have the opportunity to choose subscriptions of varying levels of difficulty, work with a group of teachers and cover a wide range of topics. The main classes are held at Gnessin Special Musical School. And in the evenings young oboe players will go through all the stages of making oboe reeds (all materials are provided by the Workshop), get acquainted with the main orchestral difficulties and perform in ensembles in the OboeLine Showroom.

Cost – 20 000 rubles (excluding the entry fee of 3 000 rubles).

Program:

  • 10 individual classes by Denis Osver
  • Introductory meeting-consultation with Philippe Nodel on baroque ornamentation (baroque repertoire proposed by the participants is welcome)
  • Meeting and acquaintance the Bolshoi Theater soloist – Evgeny Ivanov-Roshchin. Topic of the meeting: “Theatrical repertoire for oboe” (orchestral difficulties of the ballet “Swan Lake”, the opera “Eugene Onegin”)
  • Meeting-acquaintance with Leonid Surkov
  • 1 master-class on making reeds (all materials are provided by the Workshop)
  • “Oboe Ambulance”: group workshop on oboe care (master Alexander Popov)

Cost – 32 000 rubles (excluding the entry fee of 3 000 rubles).

Program:

  • 10 individual classes by Denis Osver
  • 1 online meeting – open group class with Alexander Vvedensky
  • 1 class by Philip Nodel on baroque performance
  • 1 class by Evgeny Ivanov-Roshchin on dealing with orchestral difficulties of theatrical repertoire (the ballet “Swan Lake”, the opera “Eugene Onegin”)
  • 2 individual classes by Leonid Surkov
  • 2 master-class on making reeds (all materials are provided by the Workshop)
  • “Oboe Ambulance”: group workshop on oboe care (master Alexander Popov)

Cost – 56 000 rubles (excluding the entry fee of 3 000 rubles).

«Oboe Ironman» conducted by: 

  • Denis Osver – Workshop kurator, soloist of the “New Russia” Orchestra under Y. Bashmet. The oboe and chamber ensemble teacher of Moscow Gnessin Special School.

Topics: labial apparatus, elimination of various clamps, posture during playing oboe, improving of all types of staccato, permanent breathing (classes are held at Moscow Gnessin Special School).

  • Philippe Nodel – Associate Professor at Moscow State Conservatory. Founding member of «L’esprit du Vent», specializes in performing music for wind instruments from 1700 to the present days.

Topics: acquaintance with the features of performance of music of the Baroque era, aspects of ornamentation.

  • Alexander Vvedensky – principal oboe of the Louisville Orchestra (since  2015). He holds degrees from the Curtis Institute of Music and the Manhattan School of Music, and has studied with leading instructors Richard Woodhams (principal oboe of the Philadelphia Orchestra) and  Liang Wang (principal oboe of the  New York Philharmonic Orchestra). Alexander also performed as a principal oboe of the Pittsburgh and Chicago Orchestras (conducted by Riccardo Mutti).

Topics: online meeting  – open lesson with holders of subscription №№ 2 and 3.

  • Leonid Surkov – laureate of allRussian and international competitions, graduate of the Moscow Gnessin Special School, currently a student at Üniversitäte der Künste Berlin (teacher – ARD winner Washington Barella).

Works with 2 groups of students:

Group 1 (10-13 years old). Work on intonation, communication skills in the ensemble, sight reading and various rhythmic exercises.

Group 2 (from 14 years old). Work on intonation, orchestral difficulties; discussion of the features of music education abroad.

  • Evgeny Ivanov-Roshchin, soloist of Bolshoi Theatre. He will tell about the work of an oboist in theater, will help with the orchestral difficulties of the theatrical repertoire.
  • Alexander Popov, oboe master.
